ELECTRIC CATFISH FARMING MADE EASY

The shocking catfish is also called the electric catfish and it belongs to the group of “Malapterus electricus. These types of catfish grow to about 10 feet long in nature (waters, but only about 2 feet long in aquarium waters. It’s usually found in natural lakes and rivers around Africa. The electric catfish has three pairs of barbells and a long body which looks like a cylinder.

They don’t have fin spin and dorsal fin, yet they make up for the loss with lofty fatty adipose fin. Their lips are thick, eyes are small and Nostrils are spread far apart. Males are usually thinner than the female of the same age. They are the only catfish that has well – develop electrogenic organ, which demands that’ “it should be kept in isolated interment”. Like the electric eel, this catfish will produce a disturbing shock to those coming close. The shock however, is less severe than that of the electric eel. Yet more powerful than the mormyridae shock. Several species of this family has the ability to produce an electric shock of about 350volts using electroplaques of an electric organ. The electric catfish are found in tropical African and the Nile River.
