CARING FOR DAY-OLD CHICKS

Some schools may like to have simple incubators for practice. Incubators differ in operation. One thing is certain though that the eggs must be in the incubator for about 3 weeks. They should be turned over from time to time. 

The first two days after incubation are very critical in the life of chicks. After incubation and in the incubation room, day-old chicks should be out of the light completely. Keep them in a dark room or in cages, allowing enough fresh air to enter the enclosure. No food whatsoever should be given to them for the first two days after incubation. No artificial light is needed for the first 48 hours, and no water should be given to them within the first 24 hours.

Treatment 

Vaccinate against new castle diseases, chicken bronchitis, and brooder pneumonia using either live or dead vaccine. Put a drop of the vaccine into the eyes of the day-old chicks. This should be done right away, from the moment they are hatched.
